Pirate Prerogative

The day we found a ship's wheel!
Avast ye Mateys! OK, not really.  Don't expect me to talk in pirate jargon throughout this entire blog (but some bad puns are bound to happen).  This first blog post is dropping anchor (first bad pun out of the way!) after nearly a year in the making.  No, I'm not that slow at typing. What has really taken so long is that I haven't had time nor energy to group all my thoughts together in "blog" format.  I've spent many sleepless nights thinking of all the things in my life that I could share, partly because of my inability to turn my mind off and go to sleep at night, and partly because of my First Mate.

Yes, my son was born on October 6th, 2011 and that is what really sparked my blog interest. He is also responsible for my exhaustion and lack of free time.

Those of you who know me personally know that I am an encyclopedia of information, both useful and useless.  If I don't know something, I research it until I know the answer. Well one big thing I didn't know was babies.  I knew how to make them, I researched that for about a year before trying to conceive by tracking cycles, ovulation, and chatting on ttc message boards. My research payed off and on my (our) first official try to make a first mate we had success! You should have seen the shocked looked on my Doctor's face when I came in for a pregnancy test just 14 days after my pre-conception check up.  But that is where my knowledge ended.  Even I didn't think it would be that quick to get pregnant, so I had 9 months to learn everything about pregnancy, childbirth, and baby-rearing.

So I turned to a researchers best friend, google and an iPhone. I spent the entire 39 weeks and 1 day researching every aspect of the little human growing inside of me. I found so much help from blogs like Dirty Diaper Laundry and my BabyBump app. I would spend hours, or days reading blogs, message boards, medical journals, and Pinterest. I thought I had it all figured out. (cue the laughter from those of you with kids). Then my induction happened, not part of the plan I had researched, and First Mate was born. Quickly I discovered I still had a ton more research to do. Every nursing session was a google search to kellymom or a link to babycenter. I learned things as I went, in fact I still am. But with my OCD for knowledge I think I've accumulated a lot that can be helpful. I also think the moments I'm totally unprepared for will be the most entertaining.

So after all my rambling of how Pirate Prerogative came to be, I'll cut to the chase of what it will be. Simple answer, I like Pirates. I have a pirate flag in my living room, my bachelor/bachelorette party was at a Pirate dinner theater, and my son has a kick-ass pirate room. (had, but more on that later).

The slightly longer answer is that I live my life by Pirate Code, well more like guidelines. I pillage, plunder, and deal with a lot of Pirate booty. Please explore my blog to learn more about me and my family, I invite you to come aboard.
