Why I Should Walk the Plank as a Mom

If you're out of the loop on the latest Mommy Wars, I'll fill you in. Jen from Live With Levi sparked a nasty battle on her facebook page with a photo she shared showing moms and the different choices they made in parenting. The message was a sweet one about how they all are good moms and still love their children. This message was definitely lost on some.  Names were called and insults were thrown at other moms for the way they parented their child.

As a result, Jen has linked together a growing group of posts from moms proudly owning the "crappy" things they do as a parent. I, like any other mother, am not perfect. Here are the reasons why I should walk the plank as a mom to this guy:

I chose to circumcise my son, and I'm still happy with that decision

I cloth diaper

I work full time, out of the home

I breastfeed

My baby had been to a bar

I practice Baby Led Weaning and let my son feed himself

I teach him that Pirates, Monsters, Skeletons and Zombies are cool and my house is filled with decor to support this

I won't let my son cry it out

My son recognizes the Real Housewives of Orange County theme music

I gave up on baby sign language

I give him kisses constantly

I let my son play with our dogs, even if that means he gets covered in dog hair

I tell him no

I let him get into trouble sometimes so he can learn the consequences

I cut his finger with the nail clippers

I will have him rear face in his car seat for as long as he safely fits, even if he has to cross his legs because he's freakishly tall

He will have gone to Disneyland 3 times by the time he is a year old

I welcome conversations with other moms about parenting, I didn't know a lot of this stuff before I was a mom. I also know when to keep my mouth shut and let someone raise their child how they deem fit. You may think some of these things I listed are awful, but I love my son and I think he'll turn out just fine. And before you criticize another mom for what she has chosen to be best for her child, remember, she is doing her best.

  1. Amen sister! I think all these are WONDERFUL by the way. (if i had boys, i would circumcise them too :D ) anyway, I've read on a couple of blogs about self-feeding. I'm going to have to look that up. I've never heard of that--even after two kids!

I'd love to hear what you've got to say. Please leave a comment and I'll do my best to reply to them all.
