Batten Down the Hatches!

Pirate's were weary of a Full Moon because that's when the sea was at it's worst. The low tides were very low, but the high tides were at their highest. If the crew wasn't prepared for what was coming, disaster could ensue.

This scenario is very much like my Full Moon experience this past Saturday. If only I were prepared for what rough seas were ahead for me that day.

It actually started the night before, my birthday, as a matter of fact.  We had just gotten home from a wonderful day at Disneyland and I was getting ready to put The First Mate to bed. We walked upstairs and I realized I had to pee after the long ride home. I brought the baby with me, set him down, and unbuttoned my pants.  Then I heard a loud bang, bang, splash. At first I thought it was the baby, but no, it was my phone falling into the toilet. My iPhone is my LIFE! Luckily for me, my Sister-In-Law has had her phone dunked in a toilet before. I knew to put it into a bowl of rice, fast.

I got an email that the carpet installation at our Phoenix house didn't go as planned. We were supposed to have a small hallway replaced so we could put it on the market. This couldn't be done, so we now need to find a new solution. This will cost us more money and has resulted in an entire week of wasted time that my house has not been on the market.

If only that were all, but wave after wave kept crashing upon me. Here is how the first 12 hours of the day went:

  • Phone in Toilet
  • Baby woke up at 5:30 am
  • Carpet Install failed
  • House still not on the market, 2 weeks later
  • Made pancakes only to throw them away, baking soda expired 10 years ago
  • Realized there wasn't enough milk, so had to squeeze in a pumping session
  • Dogs woke up the baby
  • Knocked my head on the kitchen cabinet
  • I was crying so The First Mate was crying
  • 5 minutes before I had to leave I discovered my work clothes were sopping wet in the dryer, the door popped open during the cycle
  • Car wouldn't start, no gas
  • Had to stop for gas
  • Running late so...
    • No shower
    • No breakfast
    • Hit every red light, seriously
    • No time to stop at the bank to make a deposit
    • Therefore late bills
  • My mother was watching The First Mate for the first time ever, and she bought him food we told her he can't have (allergies)
  • Forgot to leave out the laptop for my mom to log the baby's bottles, diapers, etc.
  • Stressed, The First Mate was being put to bed by someone other than his parents, for the first time ever
I'm pretty sure I left some things out in my attempt to block out the day from memory. There were a few meltdowns too, some from me, some from the baby. I know worse things can happen in life, but it was just too much all at once. I was actually excited to go to work and focus on something else.

Lesson learned, when the next full moon shows up, I will be better prepared.
