A Loss For Words

Sometimes being the parent of The First Mate is exhausting and I get tired. (Even more so than usual). Now that it is December, and officially the busiest shopping time of the year, I am even more drained by the end of the day. I look forward to my days off from my full-time retail job at the mall and the time to relax at home. Today's day off was jam packed with things to do, and a lot of baby chasing. This left me with a tired body and brain, which is not a good recipe for a writing a blog post. I found myself at a loss for words.

That seems fitting for today though. I was truly left speechless by the kind hearts and caring friends and family that I saw today. My Sister-In-Law turned guardian had a kid shower today. If you don't know what a kid shower is, you are not alone. I think this may have been one of the first, certainly the first I have heard of. To make an incredibly long and complicated story short, she went from being the mama of two Boston Terriers to the guardian of her 8 year old sister. To say the least, it has been life changing, maybe even more so that actually birthing a child. At least then you have 9 months to prepare for it. In her case she realized she now is the proud owner of an 8 year old, and they need a lot of stuff.

Cuddling with a June, the Boston Terrier

The First Mate's Lil' Sis-In-Law was showered with pink presents and sparkly clothes all wrapped in zebra print. It was the possibly more presents than she has received in her lifetime, and definitely her biggest party. It was overwhelming to look around and see all of these people who came together to support their friend and this child. It was truly all about their new life and making it great. However, I am most speechless over the selflessness of my Sister-In-Law. She is giving her sister a loving home and a real sense of family.

I apologize for being vague on all the details of her story, but those are not for me to share. Besides, there were enough tears shed at the party, no need to start tearing up again. Hey, I titled this post A Loss For Words, so all the more reason to leave some things out.

On a complete change of subject, we accepted an offer on our Phoenix house. I spent a large chunk of the party on the phone with the realty office and electronically signing documents. I'm keeping pretty mum on this too, I'm not wanting to jinx it. Keep your fingers crossed that you will be reading a post about me SELLING my house in the near future.
