The First Mate Meets The Ocean

We took an impromptu trip to the beach this past weekend and The First Mate put his toes into the sea and sand for the first time.

I managed to get a few pictures in between cleaning the sand out of his mouth and helping to make sandcastles.

I learned that becoming the mother of a son has really calmed me. I am so much more easy going that I used to be. I HATE getting dirty, but I didn't bat an eyelash seeing The First Mate literally bury himself in sand and make sand angels. I have succumbed to the fact that their will be messes, and it's important to let him learn and explore.

Sorry for the closed eyes, it was bright outside and The First Mate started eating sand after this so I couldn't snap another picture.
However, I did get to see this adorableness after bath time!
Seriously, who am I? Aren't first time mom's supposed to be over protective and keep their kids out of any trouble or fun?

Have any other moms felt this way with their first child?
