I'd Break a Peg Leg at this Weight

Bathroom Scale
This is not my current weight. This is actually closer to my goal weight.
It is something that everyone has, that top number that they never cross. Even if you never worry about your weight, you know the exact amount of the highest weight you've ever been. I knew mine, it was when I was pregnant with The First Mate. Then I surpassed it. Seriously, if I were a peg-legged pirate I would be putting some serious strain on my wooden appendage.

My weight loss excuse is nearly turning two.
A terrible picture of me at 37 weeks pregnant.

Before I got pregnant I had lost 40 or 50 pounds. I was determined to get healthy and lose weight before trying to conceive. I literally enjoyed hitting my goal weight for about two weeks, the time between my pre-pregnancy checkup and my positive test.. Once I was pregnant, the weight came on easily with no morning sickness and pregnant hunger rage. I gained close to 60 pounds in those nine months. My top weight, was 216 lbs. I lost some weight after giving birth, but never got back down to where I was before. I figured I had an excuse. After all, I did have a baby. Then the pounds slowly crept back on as the stress and new living situation took it's toll on me.

My weight now is 228 lbs. So, the time has come to get back down to a healthy weight that doesn't make me cringe. There are a lot of reasons I want to lose weight. A lot. I thought listing them here would be a good idea because I can refer back to them when I need a reminder. It also broadcasts it to the internet so other people can hold me accountable.

  • To keep up with my toddler
  • To be healthy
  • To be a good example for my son
  • To feel good (both physically and emotionally)
  • To look better
  • To stop having muffin top and plumbers crack
  • To better understand my relationship with food
  • To fit in clothes I already own
  • To go shopping for new clothes
  • To be more active
  • To connect with others struggling with weight
  • To inspire others
  • To be in shape for having another baby
  • To look better with shorter hair
  • To be more confident
  • To be a MILF
  • To maintain my healthy weight
  • To look good in Hawaii in 2015
  • To say I did it
  • To never have to diet again
  • To feel normal
So, as of this past Monday I am watching what I eat, counting calories, and limiting processed foods. I have been using an app on my phone called My Fitness Pal. It's also online and has a food diary and a huge database of foods in it already. If you have it, please add me as a friend and we can cheer each other on (or yell at me for being bad if necessary). My username is Pirate013.

I'd love to link up with other bloggers embarking on a similar journey. Here are a few I recommend as well.

  1. I am at my top weight right now. I tried counting calories but I was only allowed 1300 per day if I wanted to lose 1/2 pound per week. That was impossible (for me!) to to stick with so now I am just working out like a mad woman. I haven't lost any weight after working out 5 times per week for two weeks in a row, but I look better already. I think I've gained muscle and lost fat. And I feel much better about myself. I think it's all a matter of making a decision to do something for yourself. Congratulations...you are on the road to a better self & better health!

    1. Thanks Colleen. I get a decent amount of calories right now. I haven't quite worked regular exercise into my routine yet. I did dust off the treadmill though, so it looks more appealing now. You sound like you've got it right to not focus on the scale and look at your body and health for results.

  2. You are exactly where I am and this is 20 pounds down from where I was a few months ago. It is amazing how the pounds creep up when you aren't looking. That is why one of my consistent behaviors is to weigh myself every day, just to keep myself on track. I'm also using my SmartPhone to help. I have the weight loss tracker, my WW apps, which are very helpful to stop me from cheating, and also a reminder app that sends me a reminder every hour to move. Those are always a big help.

    1. I tend to step on the scale pretty frequently as well. It does keep us in check. The WW app is great. I've done their program many times with success. I just can't afford it any longer. I think my smartphone is crucial in my weight loss. I can't imagine keeping a food diary and tracking calories without it. Thanks Adrian.

  3. The WW apps and my phone don't get along! Besides the treadmill, what other kinds of exercise are you looking at?

  4. BTW I linked up by whole blog since my weight loss journey is what it's about. I hope that's OK.

  5. I actually love working out, but it's the finding the time and childcare that is tough. Once it isn't so hot outside I'll start with walking. That's simple because I can bring The First Mate along. I always loved kicked boxing, so I've though about doing that again too. Oh, and yoga is something I discovered I enjoyed, but that has to wait until naptime. The last time I attempted yoga my toddler hijacked my mat.
